原田巧（内山昂辉 配音）似乎生来就要成为一名投手，在棒球运动上有着极大天赋的他一路走来收获了无数的赞美和荣誉。升入初中后，巧来到了风景秀丽民风淳朴的新田市，在那里，他即将开始初中生活。一次偶然中，一个名为永仓豪（畠中祐 配音）的男生，竟然接住了巧拼尽全力投出的球。两人的相遇让命运的齿轮开始了转动。巧和豪双双加入了新田东中学棒球部，在那里认识了许多志同道合的朋友们——沉默寡言的队长海音寺一希（梅原裕一郎 配音）、温柔体贴的泽口文人（村濑步 配音）、自信满满的吉贞伸弘（齐藤壮马 配音）、不苟言笑的展西咏司（森岛秀太 配音）。

西曆3996年，人類在許可的惑星上建造了人工衛星，目標是培養第二代的優秀人材。在這叫做大學衛星的衛星中聚集了最強的年輕人，這是以超越界限及鍛煉身體為目標，表現出人類的熱情。跟著，這熱情在每年一度的大會中爆發，這就是大運動會。 在大運動會取得優秀成績的學生，便可獲得人類的最高稱號“宇宙撫子”。這是在戰士有生以來最想擁有的，代表了強而美麗的稱號。這就是大運動會，還有為得到“宇宙撫子”稱號而熱情戰鬥的故事。神崎明的媽媽曾經就是宇宙撫子，所以阿明也以成為宇宙撫子為目標努力訓練。在朋友的鼓勵下，阿明克服了種種苦難，將所有的才能發揮了出來，終於達成了心願。最早接觸大運動會是PC上由SLG製作的遊戲，可惜我培養的阿明只得了第二名，沒看到結局動畫。一怒之下又玩了一遍，這一次是真正去衛星了。後來有機會看動畫，雖然少了那份參與感，可動畫裏人物的內心世界變化就不是遊戲能表現的了，還是看動畫過癮啊。也有機會看了TV版，阿明的媽媽竟然會復活同她決一勝負，實在是出人意料的構思。
